I am so excited for this holiday season! Indianapolis and the surrounding areas have so many fun and festive things going on that I wanted to round up some of my favorites for you. For those of you who aren’t from the area, this list may give you some ideas to look into in your city!
Things To Do
Lights at the Brickyard – open November 16 through December 30
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway opens up its track for a two mile drive through over 500 Christmas light displays! I think it’s so neat that you get to drive on the track where the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 take place. Plus you get to stay inside the car and be warm! Tickets are $25-30 per car depending on what day of the week you visit.
Carmel Christkindlmarkt – open November 17 through December 23
This German Christmas market came to Carmel for the first time last year and was a hit! There are homemade decorations and gifts, delicious German food, and an ice skating rink. The website says that there are twice as many vendors this year!
The Ice at Center Green – open November 17 through March 30
This is the ice skating rink you can visit when you’re at Christkindlmarkt, but is open all winter long! Be sure to get your tickets ahead of time to make sure you reserve a time to skate.
Federal Hill Commons Ice Plaza – open November 17 through January 7
If you don’t want to make the drive to Carmel, you can visit this ice skating rink in Noblesville! I haven’t been ice skating since I was a little kid, so I’m looking forward to going this year!
Winterlights at Newfields – open November 17 through January 6
The Lily house at the IMA is completely decked out with lights during this time of year! You can walk the grounds (which are beautiful anytime you visit) and see over one million lights, make s’mores by the fire, and shop at the Wintermarket.
Circle of Lights – November 23
This is one of my favorite things do to in Indianapolis during the holidays! I have been going since high school and feel like it is the perfect kickoff to the holiday season. Over 100,000 people gather around the circle on Black Friday to see the circle light up for the first time of the season! It’s very crowded, but such a fun experience. If you won’t be attending, be sure to check my Instagram stories that night!
Christmas at the Zoo – open November 23 through December 30
If you’ve never been to Christmas at the Zoo, you are missing out! The zoo has one of the most beautiful light displays to walk through and get festive photos. There are a handful of families, but is a great place for a date night! Most of the animals will be inside due to the weather, but you can still visit the penguins, dolphins, orangutans, and desert animals. They also have visit with Santa, cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus, and reindeer and penguin encounters.
Indianapolis Holiday Market – November 24 and 25
Markets for Makers visited Indianapolis back in September and was a dream! The market is full of the cutest small businesses who sell handmade jewelry, soaps, cards and prints, accessories, treats, and so much more. The market also has photo walls all over so you can get the perfect Instagram pics while you’re there. General Admission tickets are only $7 ($10 at the door) and include a free tote and a DIY flower crown. I hope to see some of you there!
Christmas on the Farm – December 8 and 9
Traders Point Creamery holds a festive family party with egg nog, hot chocolate, sleigh rides, live music, holiday crafts, and a visit with Santa!

November 27 through December 2 at the Murat Theater
IPL Yuletide Celebration
